Jake, a night shift motel clerk, one night sees a girl and her older boyfriend check into the motel. As they head to their room, Jake glimpses what he thinks is evidence of their relationship being abusive. Jake calls the police, lying to them in order to get the boyfriend arrested. Jake's plan succeeds. He enters the room and starts talking to the girl, hoping for a thank you. When he is denied what he is convinced he deserves, he shows his true colors.
